Common questions
Don't see yours? Call 202-217-8990 and ask.
I let a scammer onto my computer. What should I do right now?
Turn off the internet on that computer or shut it down. Don't sign in to your bank or email on it. Call your bank if you shared any financial details, then call us so we can remove what they installed and secure your accounts.
Can you remove a virus remotely?
In many cases, yes. If the computer is too badly infected to connect safely, we'll do it on-site or you can drop it off.
Won't antivirus software fix it?
Antivirus helps, but it often misses adware, scam tools and bad browser extensions, and it can't recover a hacked account. We check everything by hand.
Will I lose my files?
Usually not. Virus removal generally leaves your documents and photos where they are. If a full reinstall is the safest option, we'll back up your files first.
How do I avoid this next time?
Keep things updated, use two-step sign-in on email and banking, and be wary of any pop-up or caller that asks you to install software. We'll set up the first two for you.
